📐 Units of Measurement
Degrees (°)
The most common unit for measuring angles. A full circle equals 360 degrees. One degree is subdivided into 60 minutes, and one minute into 60 seconds.
Example: A right angle = 90°
Radians (rad)
The standard unit in mathematics and physics. A full circle equals 2π radians (≈ 6.283 radians). Radians measure angles by the length of the arc they subtend on a unit circle.
Example: A right angle = π/2 ≈ 1.5708 radians
Conversion: radians = degrees × (π / 180)
Gradians (grad)
Also called "grads" or "gons," used primarily in surveying and civil engineering. A full circle equals 400 gradians. This system divides a circle into 400 equal parts instead of 360.
Example: A right angle = 100 grad
Conversion: gradians = degrees × (10 / 9)
Degrees/Minutes/Seconds (DD MM SS)
A sexagesimal (base-60) system commonly used in navigation, astronomy, and geography. One degree = 60 minutes (arcminutes), one minute = 60 seconds (arcseconds).
Format: DD MM SS.SS (example: 45 30 25.5 means 45°30'25.5")
Example: A right angle = 90 0 0
Conversion: decimal degrees = DD + (MM/60) + (SS/3600)
